Overview
On July 8, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was first read aloud to the public. On July 8, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., the community is invited to commemorate this historic moment at the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum. Presented in partnership with the Daughters of the American Revolution Maria Jefferson Chapter and the Sons of the American Revolution St. Augustine Chapter, the event is part of a nationwide simultaneous reading of the Declaration of Independence. Local community leaders will read selected portions as voices across the country join together in remembrance of the nation’s founding.
