From centuries of history and living cultural traditions to galleries, workshops and performing arts, Florida’s Historic Coast offers immersive arts and culture experiences throughout St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra Beach.
In the Nation’s oldest city, culture is built into the streets. The lasting influences of Spanish, Native American and African cultures shape St. Augustine’s Spanish Colonial architecture and its living history museums. They come into sharpest focus at Fort Mose Historic State Park, the site of the nation’s first legally sanctioned free Black settlement.
Fine art and history meet at museums like the Lightner Museum, housed in Henry Flagler’s former Hotel Alcazar, and at galleries throughout the region. The First Coast Cultural Center hosts exhibitions, performances, lectures and art classes year-round. At The Art House, visitors can roll up their sleeves for painting, pottery, drawing and mixed media.
When the galleries close, the arts keep going: live music and theater fill stages across St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra Beach, and the Florida’s Historic Coast Mural Trail turns a walk or drive into an open-air gallery.
