St. Augustine Art Association: Celebrating 100 Years of Making Art History
On February 23, 2024, it’s going to be a real ball!
Can you imagine a more paintable city in America than St. Augustine?
To many artists, it’s the reason they first visited and then stayed in the Ancient City, continuing to paint, open studios and establish a club of kindred souls. Initially called “The Galleon Club”, this group of trailblazing artists came from far and wide and included landscape artist Todd Lindenmuth and watercolorist E.B. Warren, Nunzio Vayana, an impressionist painter from Italy, renowned photographer Victor Rahner and notable impressionist Anthony Thieme, who once described St. Augustine as “the most paintable city in America.”
Today, 100 years after its founding, the St. Augustine Art Association celebrates the role that artists continue to play in this historic city with a Beaux Arts Ball fundraising event at the Lightner Museum. The Ball is a nod to how the St. Augustine Art Association would fundraise in the 1940’s at what was then the Alcazar Hotel, complete with an evening of dinner, dancing and fine art (live painting and an auction). Not to mention masquerade ball attire!
If you love fine art and love the city that inspired so much of it over the years, you won’t want to miss this exciting and glamorous celebration. Tickets to the event are $150 each or $1,200 for a table of eight.
