Explore St. Johns County’s often-overlooked role in Florida’s early history during Truces, Treaties, and Trickery: St. Johns County and the Second Seminole War, taking place from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. at the Hastings Branch Library. Presented by Derek Boyd Hankerson of the Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationist Board of St. Johns and Palm Beach Counties, the program examines the experiences of the Seminole Maroons (also known as Black Seminoles), the contributions of rural communities including Hastings, and the county’s significance during the Second Seminole War and Florida’s path to statehood.
