St. Augustine’s famous Nights of Lights now includes A Celebration of Art & History at the 225-year old Ximenez-Fatio House Museum.
The Celebration features holiday displays created by local artists throughout the historic house. One of the city’s most well-preserved residential buildings, the Ximenez-Fatio House tells the stories of the people who called it home over the centuries. Adding to its intriguing history are the tales of the many travelers who stayed there when it was a boarding house on what was then the edge of Florida’s exotic wilderness. Its meticulously-researched furnishings provide a detailed look at what life was like in St. Augustine from the Second Spanish Period (1784-1821) through the end of Reconstruction (1877). Its location on brick-paved Aviles Street – the oldest street in the oldest city – adds to its historic charm.
This year, members of the St. Augustine Art Association have added to the home’s holiday atmosphere by using their talents to create unique artistic displays at each of the property’s 14 fireplaces and mantles. The Art Association’s contribution to this Celebration of Art & History is particularly appropriate – the Association was founded on January 18, 1924 at the Ximenez-Fatio House. Over the years, the venerable home has served as a frequent meeting place for the Association, as well as providing studios for artists.
"A Celebration of Art & History" will run from November 23rd through January 18th. This year's theme celebrates “100 Years of Music” through creative displays on the fireplace mantels of Ximenez-Fatio House!
