St. Augustine Spanish Wine Festival Pairs History with Varietals

The St. Augustine Spanish Wine Festival is a multi-day event, September 8 – 10, which offers something for everyone who love Spanish wine. This is the 6th year of the Festival with fine Spanish wine and food. All events of this year’s festival take place at the St. Augustine Shipyard. This year's co-presenting sponsors are Wells Fargo and St. Augustine Shipyard.

The festival kicks off on Friday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. with the Cava Reception and Dinner. Each course of this four-course dinner is paired with a Spanish wine. The evening concludes with a fireworks display over the San Sebastian River. The ticket cost is $125.

The Cochinillo Asado, Spanish pig roast, is Saturday, Sept 9 at 5 p.m. This suckling pig roast is accompanied by fine Spanish wine and beer, and promises to be a picnic to top all picnics. Suckling pigs will be pit roasted in the Spanish tradition. Also, K-9s United will present a demonstration, and guests will have the opportunity to meet local law enforcement officers and their K-9s. The ticket cost is $65.
A unique way to experience wine is the The Batalla de Vino wine fight on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The Batalla is a team competition where each team’s goal is to PROTECT THE KING OR QUEEN! Each team of five (men and/or women 21+ years old) will try to get other teams’ kings and queens as red with wine as possible while protecting its royalty. The team with the whitest-clothed king or queen at the end of the competition wins. The cost to participate is $100 for a team of five people. Individuals who would like to participate can register for the Grand Battalla, which immediately follows the team event. Participation is $10 per person.
The festival concludes on Sunday, Sept. 10 with the Grand Tasting from 2-5 p.m. More than 100 Spanish wines are available to sample accompanied by Spanish-inspired hors d'oeuvres. The ticket cost is $75.
