More than 100 Candles Light Up Villa Zorayda on this Popular Holiday Tour

Take a step back in time and explore the Villa Zorayda in St. Augustine during a very special holiday event. The Villa Zorayda’s 9th annual Candlelight Tour of the museum is offered on select evenings during St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights celebration.
During the Candlelight Tours, the villa is beautifully decorated for the holidays with a spectacular Christmas tree bedecked in the colors of the Zorayda - red and gold - located center stage in the Court of Lions. More than 100 candles are aglow throughout the museum as docents lead candlelight tours of this historic former home.
This former Grand Gilded Age home was built by Bostonian Franklin W. Smith and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The architecture is a 1/10th scale reproduction of a portion of the Moorish Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain. Step inside and you’ll be surprised at the museum’s collection, which includes Egyptian artifacts, custom bone china made for the Zorayda when it was an exclusive club, and exquisite hand crafted furnishings from around the world. The museum’s most popular item is the Sacred Cat Rug, which is over 2,400 years old and made from the hair of cats that roamed the Nile.
Perhaps the most impressive part of the museum is the architecture. The intricate interior details include hand panted wood panels and tiles, geometric shaped windows and doors, and beautiful stained glass.
