The Best Way to View Nights of Lights

Seeing the spectacle of lights that is Nights of Lights in St. Augustine has become a cherished holiday tradition for many families. This year marks the 25th year of Nights of Lights, a city-wide holiday display with millions of tiny white lights adorning trees, historic buildings, hotels and Bed & Breakfast Inns, the St. Augustine Bayfront and Bridge of Lions. Nights of Lights begins November 17 and continues through February 3, 2019.

One of the best ways to see the lights is aboard Old Town Trolley’s Famous Nights of Lights Tour.

Tours depart nightly beginning at 6 p.m. from the Visitor Information Center at 10 W. Castillo Drive.  The Trolleys run every 15 minutes. Free parking is available from several of Old Town Trolley’s parking lots in and around the historic district.

Before you even board the Trolley, merry making will ensue.  Music and dance performances by local schools and area musicians include jazz, classical, pop and there will even be brass bands in the promenade area between the Visitor Center and parking garage.

Once aboard you’ll receive free “magic viewing glasses.” These 3-D style glasses enhance your ride by turning twinkling lights into snowmen, candy canes and reindeers. Plus, you’ll find coupons for area restaurants and shops printed on the glasses, which are yours to keep.

New this year is a Fast Track Pass. This new priority check-in will allow your party to preselect a reserved check-in time and access a separate line with a shorter wait time.  Track Passes are limited and times vary according to date. The Fast Track Pass must be reserved online. You’ll pre-select the date and time for your ticket. The Fast Track Pass costs $16.99 for adults, $8.99 for children 3 – 12 and children under age 3 are free.

General admission tickets do not require a reservation and can be purchased online, at any of the Trolley depots or upon arrival. General Admission costs $13.99 for adults, $5.99 for children 3-12 and children under age 3 are free.

The holiday celebration isn’t over when the Trolley comes to a halt. Step off the Trolley and get a free cookie and hot apple cider, a flavorful way to end a magical evening.
