Experience *Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom*, a 2019 Bhutanese film directed by Pawo Choyning Dorji, which gracefully explores the intersection of tradition and modernity. Nominated for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, the story follows Ugyen, a young teacher sent to a remote village in Bhutan as part of his mandatory government service. The village of Lunana, isolated in the mountains, preserves its traditional way of life, with the yak, Luana, symbolizing this enduring cultural heritage. Part of the Central Asia Film Festival, the event begins with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the film starting at 7 p.m. Film Society members attend for free, while guests are welcome for $8.
