Overview
Through conversations with artists, scholars, historians and local experts, the St. Augustine Gathering will take a closer look at the stories behind the arts, architecture and civil rights in America’s Oldest City. The Florida's Humanity Council's mission is to provide a deeper understanding of Florida, the people who call it home, and ourselves. This three-day event will feature a tour of Fort Mose, the first free Black settlement in the United States; a civil rights tour led by Flagler College scholar and historian Dr. J. Michael Butler; a tour of the Lightner Museum, formerly Henry Flagler’s grand Alcazar Hotel; “Painting St. Augustine,” from the University of Florida’s Harn Museum exhibit program led by Harn Museum Chief Curator Dulce Roman; a tour of the Ximenez-Fatio House, one of the last coquina structures in St. Augustine and former artist’s colony and much more. Registration is $450 per person and includes meals and transportation to activities. To learn more and register, visit www.floridahumanities.org/gatherings
