Overview
As part of the St. Augustine History Festival, the St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine presents a series of short talks exploring the history of St. Augustine’s Spanish Colonial Quarter. From its origins as a Criollo family home to its role as a national shrine, each 20-minute segment offers a unique perspective on the site’s evolving legacy.
1 p.m. – The home’s changing footprint and archaeological findings, based on writings by Kathleen Deagan
1:30 p.m. – The Avero House as sanctuary for New Smyrna refugees, drawn from the work of Epaminondas Panagopoulos
2 p.m. – The Chapel of San Pietro and its people, revealed through the USF Lost Voices Project
2:30 p.m. – The symbolism of the St. Photios Chapel’s iconography, as written by Archon George Filippakis
