Find the Best in Fresh at St. Augustine’s Farmers Markets
For 20 years, local farmers markets have brought together the region’s finest fresh food, prepared goods and fine art.
The St. Augustine Amphitheatre Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. under the oaks at the amphitheater. Admission and parking are free.
Come for groceries and gifts, grab a bite to eat or drink, and stay awhile to mingle with friends and enjoy some old-time music from the Free Rangers. Along with typical farmers market fare (local fresh fruits and vegetables), you can shop for jewelry, clothing, books, candles, plants, pottery, woodworking and other forms of art.
Start with a light breakfast when you arrive. Muffins, vegan pastries and fair trade coffees await. Also pick up all your dinner ingredients at the farmers market. Need ideas for what to cook? Here are two healthy, satisfying meals you can make at home:
Green salad: Market farm stands sell a variety of lettuce and mixed greens, carrots, beefsteak tomatoes and red cabbage. To top your salad, choose from homemade dressings and artisan oils and vinegars from market vendors.
Shrimp pasta: Start with a pound of fresh-caught shrimp. Select pasta from a purveyor who makes a variety by hand. Whether you want a hearty red sauce or pesto, choose a bottle from a variety of original homemade sauces. Peruse the expansive vegetable stands to find onions, peppers, garlic and more.
Complement your meal with fresh bread – several local bakers offer all types.
The St. Augustine Amphitheatre is located at 1340 A1A South, St. Augustine. You can contact the farmers market at 904-377-7462.
In addition to the Saturday Farmers Market at the amphitheater, there’s the Salt Air Farmers Market on Sundays at Marineland and the St. Augustine Beach Wednesday Market at the St. Johns County Ocean Pier Park.
