Nights of Lights St. Augustine

Experience the holiday glow on foot, by open-air trolley or on a carriage ride.

Single white candles flickered from the windows of St. Augustine in the 16th century. Today, the city shimmers with milllions of white bulbs during Nights of Lights, a venerable holiday tradition.

A Festival that Shines
Enjoy this holiday season during the 24th Annual Nights of Lights winter festival Nov. 18, 2017, through Jan 31, 2018. See the 3 million-plus lights display that National Geographic magazine deemed one of 10 best places in the world to see holiday lights.

During Nights of Lights, many of St. Augustine’s historic buildings are all dressed up. See the Ponce de Leon Hotel (home to Flagler College) and the Hotel Alcazar (now the Lightner Museum and City Hall) shine with the soft glow of while lights in the 144-block historic district, from the Bridge of Lions to the Plaza de la Constitucion. You can see the downtown lights and the Christmas tree illuminated during the official kickoff, known as “Light-Up Night,” November 18 at the Plaza de la Constitucion.

Nights of Lights has also received accolades from AAA Auto Club (as one of the 12 Favorite Places to Catch the Holiday Spirit) and the American Bus Association (as one of the top 100 events in the country).

Holiday Happenings
Holiday events connected to Nights of Lights take place throughout the downtown historic district, St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum and St. Augustine Beach.

Get a glimpse into holiday traditions of the past during the Garden Club of St. Augustine’s Annual Christmas Tour of Homes, a visit to six 1800s-era residences.

Watch Matanzas Bay light up during the Annual Holiday Regatta of Lights, a colorful and dazzling parade of sailboats, shrimp boats and other watercraft on Matanzas Bay between the Bridge of Lions and Castillo de San Marcos. That same weekend, experience “Christmas Around the World” at 24 inns during the Annual Bed and Breakfast Holiday Tour.

For a beachside holiday, Surf Illumination at Pier Park in St. Augustine Beach is the annual holiday lighting of A1A Beach Boulevard and the lighting of the Christmas tree. Enjoy holiday decorations and luminaries on the grounds of the historic St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum during Luminary Night.

Start the New Year with a Bang
Ring in 2018 on St. Augustine Beach during the Beach Blast Off with food and fireworks on Dec. 31.
