Golf Like the Pros

Get into the swing of St. Augustine's golf scene.

Florida’s Historic Coast boasts world-class golf courses, including TPC Sawgrass where THE PLAYERS Championship is held each year. The sport is one of the top things to do in St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra, and 14 beautiful and challenging area courses make it a great destination for any golfer.

St. Augustine

One of the crown jewels of St. Augustine golf is the World Golf Village, a resort that is home to the World Golf Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame pays homage to legends of the game like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Nancy Lopez, Ben Hogan and Gary Player with plenty of experiences and exploration. Exhibits honor and showcase personal memorabilia of inductees. Learn more about the little known history of African-Americans in golf. A golf simulator lets you virtually test out the likes of the Old Course at St. Andrews. The Trophy Tower puts precious prizes on display and Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf Theater screens episodes of the show with the same name.

Choose between the World Golf Village’s two courses for your golf outing. King & Bear is a mixed-design style that comes from its co-designers, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, and is the only course in the world on which the duo has collaborated. King & Bear is rated among Golf Week’s Top Resort Courses. Slammer & Squire is distinguished by memorable par-3s, preserved woodlands, wetland and natural beauty.

Other St. Augustine golf courses include St. Johns Golf & Country Club, which offers five sets of tees in addition to a family tee. Not too far from the World Golf Village, the Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club is a public 18-hole, par-71 course laid out amid lush foliage and wetlands. Warm up at the grass driving range before a round, or just stop by for extra practice – lessons and clinics are available, too.

Ponte Vedra

In Ponte Vedra, you’ll find one of the most famous golf venues in the world - TPC Sawgrass. The club is just down the road from the PGA Tour National Headquarters, forming an epicenter for the sport. Each year, TPC Sawgrass is host to THE PLAYERS Championship, a fan-friendly, exciting event on the PGA Tour that some have dubbed the “fifth major.”

Played in May on the Stadium Course with its famous island green 17th hole – a make or break for many pros - the tournament draws a field that typically includes the top 50 ranked players. One-day tickets and weekly passes can be purchased online, and travel packages are available.

In addition to the challenging Stadium Course, TPC Sawgrass features Dye’s Valley (also called the Valley Course). Legendary architect Pete Dye, Bobby Weed and player consultant Jerry Pate designed the challenging course. Opened in 1987, Dye’s Valley Course has been host to the Web.com Tour Championship since 2013.  Boasting perfectly manicured surfaces and water on every hole, Dye’s Valley was ranked No. 24 in Golfweek’s 2011 rankings of "Best Courses You Can Play" in Florida.

To create your own pro moments at TPC Sawgrass, make your tee-time reservation up to two weeks in advance. Pick one of the two courses: The Stadium Course has an alternating layout where consecutive holes play in opposite directions; the Valley Course is distinguished by wider fairways and larger greens, and each hole is punctuated by a water hazard.

Discover other Ponte Vedra golf courses like Ponte Vedra Inn & Club’s Lagoon and Ocean courses, both of which feature a distinct seaside flavor.
