Castillo by Candlelight: The Mose Story
As darkness settles across St. Augustine, the Castillo de San Marcos lit by candlelight becomes the stage for a performance of The Mose Story. The time is June 1740 when British troops from Georgia and Carolina have besieged St. Augustine. Stepping back in time, visitors meet runaway slaves taking refuge in a Spanish farm house waiting to try and make it the last few miles to St. Augustine. Governor Montiano greets the visitors in his headquarters inside the Castillo and describes his reasons for founding Mose in 1738 and the important role played by the Black Militia in St. Augustine's defenses. The event is from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Castillo de San Marcos.
