Located in the heart of Anastasia Island, just southeast of downtown, St. Augustine Beach offers white-sand beaches with opportunity for fun activities – or just lazing around under a beach umbrella.
Go fish! The St. Johns County Ocean Pier is the centerpiece of St. Augustine Beach. Join the other fishermen and drop a line off the pier in hopes of reeling in dinner. For just $3, you can fish all day and try your luck catching everything from king mackerel to tarpon.
Shore casting is another popular way to fish. The summer months offer some of the region's best fishing, especially surf casting in the evening for snapper, kingfish, cobia and amberjack. You can drive your car or truck right onto designated areas of the beach. A bait shop offers bait, tackle, ice and refreshments – as well as invaluable advice on what’s biting and what bait is working.
Family playtimeFamilies will find that the four-acre beachfront park with picnic tables and a covered pavilion is perfect for a picnic. A playground, splash park and lighted beach volleyball courts cater to those with energy to burn. The restroom facilities and outdoor showers make post-beach clean-up easy.
The pier is also a great place to listen to music or attend a special event. An annual Turtle Trot 5K run, concerts and beach festivals draw hundreds of participants and spectators.
Surfing and paddleboardingHave you always wanted to learn to surf? Or are you looking to polish your skills? Either way,
PIT Surf Shop should be your first stop. It offers private and group surfing lessons (equipment is included). Or is paddleboarding, which has really taken off in recent years, more your speed? Learn to paddleboard and get an on-high view of fish, dolphins and other marine life while you get a workout. The shop also sells a large selection of beach, skate and surf gear.
